Finding the right training that suits you and your dog can be a challenge. How people communicate with one another is very important. Interactions between the trainer, dog, and the handler are just as important.

When picking a training it is always important to know their knowledge on the reason why you reached out to them in the first place. Does this person have the experience, knowledge and how to, to help guide you and teach you to work with your dog. Since COVID there have been lots of trainers that just became educated through online courses but lack the real-life experience to help solve problems with a handler and their dog. For example, what is the trainer’s knowledge on reactivity, loose leash walking, socialization ect… of a dog.

It is also imperative that you feel comfortable and supported by the trainer you sought out to help you learn your dogs’ behaviors and how to work with your dog. The relationship between the trainer and handler must flow easily, there must be mutual respect and open communication. This is the key to success for the dog and the handler if there are to be any changes in the dog’s behavior.

Overall, when finding the right trainer to assist you with your dog’s needs make sure that the individual has experience to assist you and your dog on the reason you sought them out in the first place, make sure you feel comfortable with them, are you able to communicate to the trainer your questions or concerns?
